Fold

In the context of pot-based poker games, such as Texas Hold’em, the term fold refers to one of the three choices available to a player after another player raises. When the player folds, they forfeit their existing bet (if they have made one) and remove themselves from the competition for the pot

Players usually fold as a means of cutting losses when they believe their combination cannot compete with those of their opponents.

The player’s other options are to call (match the bet) or to raise (increase the bet even further).

If the bet hasn’t been raised since the last betting round, the player may also check (remain active in the game without increasing the bet).
