The casino in Four Seasons Macau has been robbed in the morning of May 24. The robbers took off with nearly HK$3 million or $382,000.
According to GGRAsia, a croupier and a security guard were pepper-sprayed when the robbers were getting away. The crime took place early in the morning, with police receiving a report at 5:30 AM.
This is the most outrageous crime to take place at a Macau casino, but not the first one. Just a week earlier, four men were stabbed near that same casino. Authorities also reported that casino-related crime went up 14%.
Ironically, just two days before the robbery, several casino representatives met to discuss a faster response time in case of major incidents. The above-mentioned Four Seasons Macau was part of it. As well as the local Gaming Inspection, the police and the Venitian Casino. The latter even had a staged terrorist attack a few months ago – a drill to prepare for such cases.
As of 12.30 PM, no suspects were found.
After such a bold act, security and policing will likely increase. This would especially take place in the tourist-filled casino districts.
The most puzzling issue of the robbery is its sensibility. All the money stolen were in chips. This almost nullifies the chances of cashing them out undetected.
Not to mention, Macau is a city surrounded by mainland China. The robbery would likely cause strict border controls and marine scouting. If the robbers are hiding within the city limits, the chances of success are slim. That is unless they have an ambitious plan. In that case, this scenario smells like a plot for a new Hollywood film. Perhaps, Baccarat Queen won’t be the only infamous Asian gambler.
