State in India Wants to Ban Online Gambling

The Indian state of Gujarat is considering to ban online gambling in its territory, according to The Times of India.

This follows several police reports in the state have requested that the authorities look into the current laws surrounding online gambling, claiming that the current regulations are not enough to beat illegal gambling.

The state is already known for being the most strict on gambling in India, having outright banned poker in 2017. Apart from gambling in particular, the state has also previously cracked down on online gaming in general. The state has banned several video games, most popular of which include PUBG, banned for, allegedly, encouraging aggression within the youth.

The state police acknowledge that the task would be difficult, due to gambling’s widespread popularity and a variety of recent arrests connected with illegal operations. However, the police did not specify any recent activity relating to illegal online gambling.

Although many US states and countries, such as Argentina, are on the path to legalize online gambling, there is never any shortage of countries banning gambling.
