Buenos Aires has passed the bill to legalize online gambling in the province last December, but it was just now declared that the online casino operators will be able to move in.
Online gambling legalization and regulation in Argentina is managed by individual provinces. Buenos Aires province is the first one to legalize it in the country, which opens up the potential for other provinces.
Up to seven licenses will be given out and the operators’ revenue tax will reach 25%, instead of the usual 10% tax, a wide-spread practise within the industry. The requirements include data security, industry expertise, as well as responsible gambling strategy, which would align with the typical corporate responsibility of online gambling operators.
Online casinos are authorized by the bill, including online slots and classic casino games. The bill also allows sports betting, special non-sports bets and eSports betting.
This follows a wave of online gambling legalization across the US, as well as many other states moving towards reforms, including Canada and Myanmar.
