In gambling, a buy-in is the amount a player is allowed to bet, which is usually limited by minimum and maximum bets (betting floor and betting ceiling). For instance, a player could say “The table I joined had a buy-in of $300 minimum with an $800 maximum.”
Buying in also refers to the act of purchasing chips during a game. For instance, “I decided to buy-in for $500.”
