In card games, a card shark is a term used for a player who is either really good or cheats at card games (British English: card sharp). A card shark who wins due to skill is a semi-professional or professional gambler (e.g. pro poker player). A card shark who wins by deception is a common cheater (for example, a capper).
How do I avoid card sharks?
While there is no way for you to avoid players who are simply good at playing card games, you can easily protect yourself from cheaters by playing at a reputable casino or online venue. While cheating is still common in small, informal games, modern surveillance techniques allow casinos to ban cheaters and enter them into the black book quickly and efficiently.
