Chase (Chasing Losses)

In gambling, the term chasing means placing a bet in an attempt to cover the losses incurred during a gambling session. A gambler is said to be chasing a loss when, after losing a bet, they place a large wager in hopes to cover their losses by winning more money.

Should I chase losses in casino games?

In general, chasing losses is considered to be a poor strategy that can trap a gambler in a cycle of losses.

Does the Martingale system work?

The Martingale betting system is one of the most popular techniques used for chasing losses. According to the Martingale, in theory, a player cannot lose if they double their bet after each loss. This means that, when the player wins a bet, they will win back all of their lost money.  In the real world, chasing losses using the Martingale system is of limited helpfulness due to limiting factors, such as maximum bets and limited bankrolls.
