In card games, such as poker or blackjack, card counting is a technique for calculating which cards are likely to come out of the deck next. The technique is most commonly associated with blackjack.
Depending on the venue, counting cards may either be allowed or considered a form of cheating. In the gambling community, there are arguments both for and against allowing card counting.
In blackjack, card counting by a player who is not playing at the table is called back counting.
