Sergey Portnov, CEO of sportsbook Parimatch, has shared his opinion on eSports eventually becoming far more popular than football.
According to Portnov, eSports are now in the top 6 for sports betting on their platform, with around 5% of the company’s revenue coming from virtual sports.
In a recent interview, the head of Parimatch said that “[…] young people will not jump into traditional sports.[…] it’s huge but do they innovate? Esports invests a lot digitally and football cannot compete in the online world; […] Even youngsters will prefer to bet on FIFA (esports) than actual football.”
He also stated that eSports could easily bring 20% of the company’s revenue in 5 years, while in 10 years, it can outgrow football, as children and teenagers that are watching eSports today will be old enough to bet.
