Low Roller

A low roller is a gambler who is making small bets. For example, a low rolling slot machine or video poker player would choose a machine with the smallest minimum bet and then proceed to play it by placing the minimal bet on a single pay line.

Most low rollers are hobbyist gamblers who play for the enjoyment of playing, rather than in the hopes of winning big. Low rolling helps such players make their bankroll last as long as possible and, thus, extend their gambling session as long as possible.

The term was created as an antonym to high roller (a gambler who places very large bets).
