Hot

In the context of gambling, a hot player is a gambler who has won several wagers in a row. The term can be used to describe a succession of consequent lucky betting outcomes for an individual player or a team of gamblers. In sports betting, the term means winning several bets in a row.

To maximize their gains, a hot player might start firing, which is placing very large bets in the manner of a high roller. In general, this is not considered to be a good idea as it can quickly lead to the loss of the player’s entire bankroll.

The opposite of a hot streak is a player being on a cold streak.

Hot:

  • A player who has won several bets in a row.

Fun gambling fact:

According to mathematical models of randomness, cold and hot streaks are a lot more common than most people would imagine. You can test this yourself by throwing a coin 300-500 times. You will almost invariably get far longer only-heads or only-tails streaks than you think you will.
